Diamond Valley Dry Lake
2 day meteorite hunt in the wilds of Nevada
In May of 2011 I met up with Scott and Terri Johnson while on my way back to Michigan from Az. We met up in the wilds of Nevada for a 2 day hunt on a huge, rarely visited dry lake bed. There had been one meteorite found there in 2001 by Nick Gessler. It’s a 440g H5.
The first day we were there we didn’t find any. The next day I found some stranding zones on the south east end of the lake bed and proceeded to find the first of 7 stones for the trip. I dragged my feet getting the stones classified and someone else came in later and found meteorites, had them classified and submitted, 002 and 003, before I got to it. Therefore my 3 finds are 004, 005, and 006. Scott and Terri have not had theirs classified as of yet.

Diamond Valley 005 can be seen in this stranding zone. It’s the dark, triangular rock more to the forefront.

Scott finds one several feet from my first find.
